Web Design Vs. Web Development

Published by Tom under Webmaster Advice, Website Creation

Web Design covers a large range of topics. When websites first started, web design was primarily focused on the actual layout and design of the website. This included color schemes, codes, navigation, and the flow of the website. However, over time the Internet increased is size and many more websites started to appear. This has changed how we look at designing a site.

Basic web designing has been replaced with a more encompassing term called Website Development. Designing is now a minor part of the overall project. With literally thousands of templates and premade designs available to webmasters, many webmaster choice to focus more on the more complex phases of website development. These include setting up the site to draw your target audience. Not only that, you need to develop quality content to attract the search engines to find your site and to boost you to the top of the search engine results.

Competing in today’s dotcom world is much more complex and having the right knowledge will help you succeed. This includes first coming up with a competitive site and a niche that is not too over populated. Do not fear competition, however; do not jump into a overcrowded field where there is no room to succeed.

To develop a quality site, a webmaster needs to target keywords related to the niche they are entering. The keywords should flow naturally through the content of the site. Random keyword stuffing causes inferior content and no live viewer wants to read it. The next thing is to make sure you offer enough quality content to attract people and keep them coming back. Doing this is easy if you have a passion for the niche. It is much harder if you know little or nothing about the niche. Do your homework and research prior to starting any website. Many webmasters have entered a niche with visions of the great untapped riches and only found fool’s gold. A well prepared and knowledgeable webmaster will have much more success.

Once you have developed the website, created the design, added quality content with well placed keywords, and made sure you have the total package, you then need to prepare to launch the site. The right timing along with proper SEO efforts is the key to success at this step. Many webmasters choose to launch quickly and find themselves ill prepared to succeed. It is better to delay for two weeks then to release a website unworthy of your viewers and customers.

After you release the site, you want to promote the site through advertising, building back links, writing press releases, and let everyone you can know that your site is here to stay.

Web Design is much more than designing a pretty site, it is hard work and a long process. Anybody can design a site, however, in order to do proper web development, a webmaster should have knowledge, do tons of research, put in the sweat an tears, and be ready for everything. If you are not capable of all this, by all means, hire someone qualified to do the steps for you. Success is not easy with the best developed website, however, success is impossible without a well developed website.

Getting Started Building Your Website

What does it take to be a successful webmaster? Well that is a hard question to answer. I have seen new web owners with no experience be very successful. I have also seen some of the best in the business lead by example. However, one thing that is clear from any webmaster of any level. To be successful, they need a quality website.

It is not always easy to create a website. If you are not a programmer and do not wish to spend hours learning CSS, HTML, Flash, and all the other things you need to know to create a website, you need to find an easier way. You could pay someone else to do it for you. However, to get what you want, it could cost a lot of money; even thousands. I suggest you find a way to do it yourself.

One way to do this is to use Web Studio a quality website builder. They offer many packages from a basic website all the way up to a full operational ecommerce store. With no experience at all, they can have you fully set and ready to go. Their packages include hosting and setup along with many tools to create and build the perfect website.

Finding Good Web Hosting

Published by Tom under Webmaster Advice, Website Creation

Finding good quality hosting is always a challenge. There are many hosting sites that off free or super cheap rates and when you start using them, you end up with slow loading, massive downtime, and no support when you need it. This can be super frustrating. That is why it is important to look for a company you can trust.

The good news is that there are  affordable web hosting companies that will provide excellent service and provide great uptime. The key to finding this is to read all terms of service and read what they promise to you.

There is a limit to everything when it comes to hosting. Packages that promise unlimited everything for $1 a month is the type of stuff you should avoid. Cheaper is not better and you should look for reliability. The company should offer at least 99% uptime and 24/7 support. Problems do not always happen between 9 to 5 weekdays so their support team should be there when you need them.

Be sure that the plan you pick covers what your needs are. How many sites will you have? How much space will you need? How much traffic will you have each month? These are all questions you need to answer and than ask upfront if the plan you choose will cover that. Remember, if you use a lot of big images or loads of video, this will require more bandwidth than just a text site.

Ask everything up front and make sure you know what you are paying for. One thing to consider is who is in charge of keeping back ups of your site. If the host provides back ups, this is a huge plus if anything every happens. You also want to know if the price is discounted if you pay by the year instead of the month. This could save quite a bit of money for you.

Good hosting is out there and with the right research and the right questions, you can find the best for great prices.

Getting Rich Through Blogging

Published by Tom under Webmaster Advice, Website Creation

I still see many people throughout the many webmaster forums claiming to make huge amounts of money through blogging. They claim that they set up a blog, copy several articles from elsewhere and start making a couple a thousand or more a month in the first three months.

Guess what? That is 99% bull mixed with a huge load of dog crap. Most blogs make a little money and the more blogs you have, the more you may make. You can make money from blogging and many earn a nice income each month. However, creating one blog and becoming rich is rare.

There are a few big names in blogging such as Shoemoney and John Chow. However, these are rare cases of bloggers who have become major successes. It does not mean that every blog that is created will make you a millionaire. It takes hard work, dedication, and lots of patience. You also have to spend money running contest, advertising, creating controversy, and more.

Can you get rich from blogging? Yes, however, as I stated, it is rare to earn huge money from one blog. Instead, try to build the best blog you can and work hard to provide great posts that are unique and full of good information. The blog will build over time and at some point, you can earn a descent amount of money through ads and affiliate links. Until that point, just have fun and enjoy your blog. If you are in blogging just to make money, there are easier ways to earn money.

If you became rich by blogging, please share your story by leaving a comment or two.

What niche should I choice?

Published by Tom under Webmaster Advice, Website Creation

Many times when a webmaster decides to start a website, they often times struggle with choosing the right topic or niche to start a site about. Blinded by visions of huge profits, they jump into a niche of the latest greatest thing just to get bored later. What is it right now, proxies, social sites, melanoma cancer, or something all new?

My view is when choosing a niche, decide on something that you know about. Make sure it is interesting to you and make sure you can either gather information or know enough to keep adding fresh content to your site. A website or blog loaded with articles copied from elsewhere will bring a quick buck but it will be short lived and you will find yourself chasing the next big niche to earn from.

It is much better to build a website slowly and develop it over time so you have something to be proud of and an opportunity to earn money for the long term.  Readers want to visit sites that have fresh content written by the website owner or at least purchased from a competent author.

Build, write, and promote your website with vigor and no matter what niche you choose, you can have success and make a little money doing it.

Have something to add to this article, feel free to leave a comment.
