SEO Scams

Published by Tom at 7:45 am under Search Engine Optimization, Webmaster Advice

There are many SEO companies that will do professional work for good prices. I have reviewed a few on this and my other blogs. However, when purchasing any service, be careful of SEO scams.

Search Engine Optimization is an acquired skill and it takes time and lots of work. There is no magic bullet that you can buy for $49.95 that will magically make your site appear on the number one spot in Google or get you a PR 6 ranking in just three months. I would be weary of any company that guarantees those results.

Are these things possible? Yes they are. You can get either and both if you work hard. However, Google determines who earns both of those rankings and at anytime Google can devalue any or all of your links. If this is done, there is no way to earn the rankings like that.

When using any SEO service, make sure to ask questions. Get the full details of what is being offered and what is being done to promote your site. If it sounds too good to be true, it is! With most honest SEO companies, you will see some results and hopefully really good ones. However, there are many who will say whatever it takes to get your money and never deliver what they promise.

Always do your research and ask for recommendations from other customers. Talk to friends to get some recommendations. Search the Internet for bad and good things on the company who is offering the service. And I say it again, SEO services are not a magic bullet and be weary of promises that are too good to be true.

SEO is still a fairly young business and that means that a lot of people will get scammed or at least get less than they were hoping for. I believe that this will change in the future. As with most businesses I believe the SEO companies that are serious will put to much pressure on the rotten ones.

I must say I’ve come across individuals that do some pretty shady things to “rank”.

One did the whole invisible text thing on a friends business site and within two weeks Google sent my friend the email requesting he correct it (which of course was the first he even knew about it).

By the time he got a hold of the “seo” guy, he was long gone…

I agree, working for a web design company who specialise in organic SEO, I know how much work is needed to perform well in Google. I’m constantly hearing from clients, that other agencies have approached them promising page 1, ranking 1 within a week!

I always tell my clients to be patient when using organic SEO and web success cant happen over night. But with the right web campaign high rankings are just a click away (sorry that sounded cheesy). But beware of the SCAMMERS!
